BIOGRAPHY

Omaha-based artist Shawnequa Linder explores the tension between chaos and order, what it means to stay whole amid that pull. She works in portraiture, landscapes, and figures. Linder uses unconventional tools like business cards, the textured soles of shoes, and other everyday objects to apply paint instead of traditional brushes.Many of her subjects come from her own photographs, which she incorporates into collaged, mixed media pieces. Through this process, familiar images are broken apart and rebuilt. They become something that reflects how identity is formed, fragmented, and reassembled through culture and life experience. For Linder, the portrait is the most direct way to explore this idea: a face is never just a face; it records everything a person has carried and survived.The resulting works create visual conversations, inviting viewers to think about how a person holds onto themselves through constant cycles of falling apart and coming back together.Linder earned her Studio Arts degree from Bellevue University in 2006. Her work has been shown at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, the Museum of Nebraska Art, and Gallery 1516 & Fred Simon Gallery.
